Atlanta, Georgia Clinic:
I greatly admire Craig Stevens for being a trainer who truly puts the horse first. It was so refreshing to hear a dressage trainer speak of releasing the hands and freeing the horse to move naturally with the rider instead of the two constantly pulling against each other. I like his analogy of handling the reins as if you were having a light conversation with your friend.
Craig obviously has a deep understanding of the natural movement of the horse and how to precisely direct the horse's movement with imperceptible lightness. I truly enjoyed watching this master horseman accomplish refined movements on horses that he had never before ridden. The horses were happy, at ease and in harmony with Craig's every subtle request.
Craig offers a wealth of knowledge that would greatly benefit every serious equestrian.

Leave your ego at the door; it's time for another clinic with Craig Stevens! In our first clinic Craig had introduced Olympia and me to the direct rein, indirect rein, and half-halt through the rein. We had begun work on the shoulder-in and half-pass and by the end of the clinic I went from feeling defeating to feeling enlightened. It was hard to let go of my prior misconceptions but as my little 4yo Morgan began to glide across the ring in the most effortless shoulder-in I could no longer argue with Craig's logic. In the months after my first clinic I began the same work with all my training horses and the changes were amazing! My hot horses became quiet, light and sensitive. My dull horses became forward and energetic. My walk scores went from 5's and 6's to 7's and 8's. Most importantly, my horses were happier than ever! I looked forward to this next clinic with eager anticipation of the even greater insight ahead... and
I am saving up all my pennies to go to Washington for an intensive so prepare yourself Craig!

I realized on the drive home that although I didn’t think it was possible-I fell in love with my horse even more. You gave us a way to be intimate and develop a true form of communication. I’ll forever be grateful to you... I desperately want to learn to ride him as well as he deserves. It was the coolest thing-ever for him to have you on his back. He was probably thinking-“oh, that’s what they’ve been wanting me to do.”
